Our history

For more than twenty years, École Paul & Virginie has supported pupils from Petite Section to CM2 in a caring, demanding and outward-looking environment.

Overview

A leading French school in Mauritius

École Paul & Virginie is a Mauritian non-profit company, created in 2003 to offer families a quality French education in Mauritius.

Today it welcomes more than 550 pupils, from Petite Section to CM2, in an exceptional setting in Tamarin.

Accredited by the French Ministry of Education, it is part of the worldwide network of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and follows the official French national curriculum.

Our origins

Founding parents

In 2002, in Tamarin, on the west coast of Mauritius, the area was growing and many French-speaking families were settling there. Yet there was no nearby French school: the youngest children had to travel up to two hours a day to reach the schools in Curepipe or Moka.

From this observation the project was born, driven by four volunteer parents who put their skills at the service of a shared ambition:

  • Vincent Lagarde, initiator and creator of the school, brought together everyone involved and handled the project's logistics from September 2002.
  • Manuelle Attias, a businesswoman, set up the teaching and administrative teams.
  • Robert Ferrat, Franco-Mauritian, oversaw administrative procedures and the school's standing within the local community.
  • Ezra Jhuboo and his family, thanks to whom the school enjoys its exceptional site south of Tamarin.

Carried by their enthusiasm and supported by families, the venture took shape: École Paul & Virginie opened its doors for the 2003 school year.
